Drilled Concrete Floor and Drove Nails to Secure Tents
Even Drilled Holes in Breakwater Railings to Fasten Tents

As the number of people enjoying camping has reportedly surpassed 6 million, incidents involving inconsiderate campers are drawing public criticism. Most recently, a group of so-called "nuisance campers" was spotted at the public parking lot of Heungnam Beach in Geoje City, Gyeongnam Province, drilling into the concrete floor to set up their tents.

On the 13th, a post titled "The nuisance campers at Heungnam Beach in Geoje are truly outrageous" was uploaded to an online community. The photos shared by the poster, identified as A, show tents set up in the parking lot with nails driven into holes drilled in the concrete to secure them. The campers even drilled holes into the breakwater railings to anchor their tents.

The poster, A, explained, "These photos were taken by a member of a camping club on October 8," and pointed out, "Heungnam Beach in Geoje has repeatedly made the news due to campers drilling into the parking lot floor, yet this behavior continues." He added, "Now they've even drilled into the breakwater railings. I don't understand why there is no enforcement against this," expressing his frustration.

Earlier, in July of this year, campers were also spotted drilling into the ground to set up tents in the public parking lot at Heungnam Beach, sparking controversy. Not only Heungnam Beach, but other popular camping destinations during vacation season are also repeatedly troubled by inconsiderate campers. In response, online commenters said, "This has been an issue several times, but is the local government doing nothing?" "Shouldn't this be punished as damage to public property?" and "The reason this keeps happening despite the controversy is because no one is enforcing the rules."

According to current regulations, authorities can order the removal and restoration of any unauthorized facilities installed in public parking lots or beaches. In addition, under the revised Parking Lot Act implemented last year, camping or cooking in parking lots operated by the government or local public agencies can result in a fine of up to 500,000 won.
