Phu Quoc Ranks No. 1 in Asia
The 'Visa-Free Island' Welcoming Tourists from 150 Countries
Phu Quoc, Vietnam's premier resort destination, has been named the best island in Asia.
Recently, Vietnamese media outlet Vietnam Plus reported that Phu Quoc topped the list of best islands in Asia in the "Readers' Choice Awards 2025" by the American travel magazine Cond? Nast Traveler.
Phu Quoc is the only Vietnamese island included in the list of "the world's most beautiful islands." This year, it scored 95.51 points, surpassing last year's score and ranking first overall in Asia. The evaluation was based on a comprehensive assessment of various factors, including service quality, natural scenery, the beauty of its beaches, unique cuisine, and local hospitality.
Globally, Phu Quoc ranked third, following Hilton Head Island and Kiawah Island, both in the United States. It significantly outperformed other renowned resort destinations such as the Maldives (92.31 points), Maui in Hawaii (93.35 points), Bali in Indonesia (89.84 points), and Phuket in Thailand (84.62 points). The gap with second-place Kiawah Island was a mere 0.01 points.
Phu Quoc has been listed in the rankings for four consecutive years, with both its score and ranking rising each year. Last year, it ranked second in Asia, just behind Bali.
This year, the JW Marriott Phu Quoc Emerald Bay Resort, operated by Sun Group and located on Kem Beach in southern Phu Quoc, was also named among the world's best resorts.
'Breathtaking Natural Scenery' Drives 66% Surge to 1.2 Million Foreign Tourists This Year
The popularity of Phu Quoc is evident in the statistics. According to the An Giang Province Department of Tourism, which oversees Phu Quoc, the number of foreign tourists visiting the island from January to September 2025 exceeded 1.2 million, a 65.8% increase year-on-year. Tourism revenue reached approximately 31.1 trillion dong (1.7 trillion won), up 90.1% from the previous year. Currently, Phu Quoc welcomes tourists from more than 150 countries.
With its breathtaking natural scenery, Phu Quoc now attracts visitors from over 150 countries. It is also the only region in Vietnam that allows all foreign visitors to enter visa-free for 30 days, which is considered a major factor in drawing tourists. With Sun PhuQuoc Airways set to launch its first flights in November, accessibility for international travelers is expected to improve even further.
Vietnam Plus commented, "Once an unknown destination, Phu Quoc has now surpassed Hawaii and the Maldives to become a world-class tourist destination," adding that its status is rising ahead of the 2027 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit.
This year marks the 38th edition of Cond? Nast Traveler's "Readers' Choice Awards." Each year, the winners are selected based on evaluations by experts and journalists, as well as votes from readers around the world.
