First Participation at Germany's K Show, Introducing PuroTec
Proving Safety to Target the Global Market
Annual 4,500-Ton Production Capacity, Expanding B2B Business
LG Electronics is introducing its antibacterial functional material 'PuroTec' to the European market for the first time.
On October 12, LG Electronics announced that it had showcased LG PuroTec at 'K 2025 (K Show)', which opened on the 8th (local time) in D?sseldorf, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Held every three years, the K Show is considered one of the world's top three plastic material exhibitions, alongside the NPE (International Plastics Exhibition) in the United States, which is also held every three years, and Chinaplas in China, which takes place annually. This year's event attracted over 3,200 companies from 66 countries.
Through this K Show, LG Electronics is introducing its PuroTec solutions, which can be applied across a wide range of sectors including home appliances, mobility, construction materials, and apparel, to global B2B (business-to-business) customers. The company aims to accelerate the discovery of potential clients and expand its market presence.

In the exhibition hall, LG Electronics displayed a variety of products featuring PuroTec, including home appliances such as washing machines and refrigerators, as well as clothing, sofas, bathroom products, and car seats. The company also showcased antibacterial plastics developed in collaboration with LG Chem, highlighting LG Electronics' technological competitiveness.
Notably, as PuroTec recently completed regulatory registrations for antibacterial agents required for entry into the European and U.S. markets, this exhibition is expected to serve as a gateway for PuroTec's entry into Europe. Both Europe and the United States strictly regulate the distribution and supply of functional products with antibacterial or sterilizing properties, allowing only those that have proven their safety through toxicity assessments under the Biocidal Products Regulation (BPR) in Europe and the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA) in the United States.
Last month, LG Electronics signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with international testing and certification body SGS Korea to enhance and further develop the quality of LG's antibacterial materials. The two companies agreed to jointly develop an international certification to verify the antibacterial performance of LG PuroTec.
Under the agreement, LG Electronics will provide antibacterial technology for certification design, while SGS Korea will design certification procedures in accordance with international standards. Products that pass the certification will be awarded SGS's global performance mark.
PuroTec, in the form of glass powder, is an antibacterial and antifungal functional material that, when added in small amounts during the manufacturing of materials such as plastics, paints, or rubber, prevents odors and contamination caused by microorganisms. Leveraging its expertise in glass powder research and its application to home appliances, LG Electronics is developing PuroTec as a B2B business.
LG Electronics first applied functional glass powder to ovens released in North America in 2013. To date, the company has filed 420 patents related to glass powder and operates a production facility with an annual capacity of 4,500 tons at its Smart Park in Changwon, Gyeongnam Province. Since beginning PuroTec sales in 2023, revenue has more than doubled each year, maintaining a steep growth trajectory.
Through continuous research and development, LG Electronics is expanding the applications of glass powder beyond PuroTec. Notable examples include 'Marine Glass', which dissolves in water to supply nutrients to seaweed and microalgae, aiding marine ecosystem restoration and carbon reduction, and 'Mineral Wash', which enables washing without the need for surfactants.
Baek Seungtae, Executive Vice President and Head of Kitchen Solutions at LG Electronics, said, "Based on our accumulated technological expertise, we will promote the growth potential of PuroTec in the global market and strengthen our new materials B2B business."
