Samsung C&T announced on the 9th that it signed a Strategic Alliance Framework Agreement for SMR with GVH (GE Vernova Hitachi Nuclear Energy) in Stockholm, Sweden, on the 6th (local time), targeting the European, Southeast Asian, and Middle Eastern markets.

With this agreement, both companies plan to lead the global SMR market by leveraging Samsung C&T's experience in nuclear power and infrastructure projects, along with GVH's proven technology.

The signing ceremony was attended by Oh Secheol, CEO of Samsung C&T; Mavi Zingoni, CEO of GE Vernova Power division; Jason Cooper, CEO of GVH Nuclear division; and other key executives from both companies.

GVH was established in 2007 as a joint venture between GE of the United States and Hitachi of Japan for nuclear power development. The company is recognized as a global SMR player, having developed the 'BWRX-300,' a 300MW SMR technology based on an improved Boiling Water Reactor (BWR).

GVH's 'BWRX-300' is currently under construction in Ontario, Canada, as the first SMR project in the Western world, and was also selected by the Swedish state-owned power company Vattenfall as the final candidate for the Ringhals nuclear power project in Sweden.

Through this agreement, Samsung C&T will participate as a strategic partner in GVH's projects in Europe, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East, taking part in all stages of the SMR business from the initial phase to EPC (engineering, procurement, and construction).

Oh Secheol, CEO of Samsung C&T, stated, "By combining Samsung C&T's EPC capabilities with GVH's SMR technology, we plan to provide optimal energy solutions," and added, "Through this collaboration, we will actively expand our SMR business in the global market."

Mavi Zingoni, CEO of GVH, emphasized, "Through collaboration with Samsung C&T, which has a proven track record of successful projects in the global nuclear power sector, we will further strengthen our position as a leading player in the global SMR market."

Samsung C&T, in partnership with GVH, is expanding its SMR business in Sweden and Estonia, and is also working jointly with NuScale, Fluor, and Sargent & Lundy of the United States on the Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) for the Romanian SMR project.
