Lee Sujeong, head of the Suwon Jeong district committee of the People Power Party, who posted on her social media account during the 21st presidential election that the two sons of then-Democratic Party presidential candidate and current President Lee Jaemyung had been exempted from military service, has been referred to the prosecution.
The Suwon Jangan Police Station in Gyeonggi Province announced on October 7 that Lee was referred to the prosecution on September 23 on charges of violating the Public Official Election Act and the Information and Communications Network Act.
On May 28, ahead of the presidential election, Lee posted on her Facebook account that "the candidate and his two sons were all exempted from military service," which led to a complaint being filed against her by the Democratic Party.
After deleting the post, Lee explained, "I shared information circulating online for about 10 seconds, but after confirming it was false, I immediately deleted it," and added, "Please forgive me."
