Presidential Office: "Principle of Prioritizing National Interest"

On October 5, the Presidential Office held an emergency meeting to address urgent trade issues related to the Korea-US tariff negotiations. At the meeting, it was reported that Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Kim Jeong-Kag, who is currently in the United States, shared the results of his meeting with US Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick held the previous day.


In a press release issued on the same day, the Presidential Office announced that it had convened the emergency meeting on trade issues. The meeting was co-chaired by Policy Chief Kim Yongbeom and National Security Office Chief Wi Sung-rak. Attendees included Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Koo Yooncheol, Foreign Minister Cho Hyun, Trade Negotiation Head Yeo Han-koo, as well as other related ministers and key aides from the Presidential Office, such as Chief Presidential Secretary for Economic Growth Ha Jun-kyung and Third Deputy Director of the National Security Office Oh Hyun-joo. Minister Kim also participated via phone call.

The Presidential Office stated that during the meeting, Minister Kim Jeong-Kag shared the results of his meeting with Secretary Lutnick, which took place the previous evening (local time) in the United States. Based on this, the participants discussed strategies for responding to future tariff negotiations.


The Presidential Office said, "The government will continue follow-up consultations on tariff negotiations with the United States, adhering to the principle of prioritizing the national interest."
