"Necessary for the Public Interest"
The personal information of the suspect accused of killing three people with a weapon at a pizza restaurant has been made public.
The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency announced on the 16th that it had convened the Personal Information Disclosure Review Committee and decided to disclose the identity of the 41-year-old suspect, Kim Dongwon. The police explained, "We determined this was necessary for the public interest, including crime prevention, given the seriousness of the harm, the brutality of the crime, and the sufficiency of the evidence."
Kim also stated that he had no objection to the decision to disclose his information. The personal information will be available on the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency website for 30 days starting today.
Previously, on the morning of the 3rd, Kim allegedly killed one executive from the franchise headquarters and two interior contractors by wielding a weapon at a franchise pizza restaurant he operated in Jowon-dong, Gwanak-gu, Seoul. At the time of the crime, Kim attempted to take his own life but sustained injuries and was treated at a hospital before being arrested by the police on the 10th.
