The Daewoo Foundation Academic Research Support Project was launched in 1981 with the goal of fostering fundamental academic disciplines in Korea. Kim Woojoong, former chairman of Daewoo Group, donated his entire fortune, and renowned scholars such as former Seoul National University professor Cho Soon proposed the business model, establishing its foundation.

As a result, a total of 825 volumes across eight different series have been published to date, including 651 volumes in the Daewoo Academic Series and 61 volumes in the Daewoo Classics Series, earning recognition for their authority in both domestic and international academic circles.

This year’s call for applications is divided into two categories: ▲Academic Monographs (open topic) and ▲Research Translation (focused on classics and major works). Any researcher with a doctoral degree or higher, regardless of field or affiliation, may apply.

In particular, the Research Translation category offers an opportunity to introduce works of significant intellectual value to the Korean academic community, serving as a systematic channel for bringing outstanding international works into Korea.

Applications will be accepted from September 1 to September 30, and application forms can be found on the Daewoo Foundation Academic Projects website.

The Daewoo Foundation places emphasis not only on providing research funding but also on ensuring that research outcomes are shared with society through the publication of academic series and public lectures.

Chairman Kim Sunhyup stated, "Although research in fundamental academic disciplines may not yield immediate results, it forms the foundation for the advancement of both academia and society. We will continue to support researchers so they can fully pursue their academic passions, and we aim to create platforms where their achievements can be shared with society."

Founded in 1978, the Daewoo Foundation has continued for 47 years to foster talent and contribute to society through various initiatives, including the Kim Woojoong Medical Award, Daewoo Dream Land, Art Sonje Center, and the Global Young Business Manager Program (GYBM), in addition to its academic support projects.
