Visit to Encourage Wounded Veterans
Second Trip Since Outbreak of Ukraine War
Prince Harry of the United Kingdom made a surprise visit to Ukraine on the 12th (local time) to encourage wounded veterans.
This is Prince Harry's second visit to Ukraine since the outbreak of the war in 2022, following his first visit in April.
During his first trip, Prince Harry visited the western city of Lviv, and this time he traveled to the capital, Kyiv.
In an interview with The Guardian on the overnight train to Kyiv, Prince Harry said, "We cannot stop the war, but we will do everything we can to help with the recovery process."
While in Kyiv, Prince Harry is scheduled to visit the National Museum of the History of Ukraine in the Second World War, meet with 200 veterans, and hold talks with Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko.
Prince Harry has been actively involved in supporting wounded veterans, including founding the Invictus Games, an international sporting event for injured service members.
Ukraine is bidding to host the Invictus Games in 2029. In June, Kyiv was named as one of six candidate cities, along with Daejeon in South Korea, Aalborg in Denmark, Veneto in Italy, Abuja in Nigeria, and San Diego in the United States. The final decision will be announced next summer.
Having stepped down from royal duties and now residing in the United States, Prince Harry met his father, King Charles III, in London the previous day for the first time in 19 months. Prince Harry has had ongoing conflicts with King Charles III and his older brother, Prince William.
