원본보기 아이콘A statue honoring Satoshi Nakamoto, the mysterious creator of Bitcoin, the world’s first cryptocurrency, has been unveiled in Hanoi, Vietnam. This is the fifth Satoshi Nakamoto-related monument to be erected worldwide.
According to Vietnamese media on September 11, the statue was created by Italian artist Valentina Picozzi and brought to Vietnam by the Vietnam Blockchain & Digital Asset Association (VBA). It is currently on display at the headquarters of 1Matrix in Times City and will be open to the public every Saturday as part of the “Blockchain Gallery” program.

원본보기 아이콘Satoshi Nakamoto is known as the pseudonym of the creator (or group) behind Bitcoin and the first to introduce blockchain technology to the world. In October 2008, a white paper outlining a decentralized digital currency system was published under the name “Nakamoto.” In early 2009, Nakamoto released the Bitcoin software and mined the first block, then disappeared from public view around 2010. Although Nakamoto’s true identity remains unknown, the estimated 1.1 million Bitcoins believed to be in their possession-worth over 173 trillion won as of the article’s publication-would place them among the world’s top 20 wealthiest individuals if calculated under a real name.

A VBA representative explained, “It took artist Picozzi 21 months to complete this work. The statue symbolizes the culture of decentralization, and its installation in several countries acknowledges the Bitcoin creator’s contribution to the advancement of global financial technology.”
Statues of Satoshi Nakamoto have now been installed in Hungary, Switzerland, El Salvador, Japan, and, with this unveiling, Vietnam. The first statue was erected in Budapest, Hungary, featuring a reflective bronze surface under the title “We are all Satoshi,” allowing visitors to see themselves in the sculpture. This conveys the message that “anyone can be Satoshi.” The statue in Switzerland was stolen shortly after its unveiling in October 2024 but was recovered this August.
