Sharing Jinju's Cultural City Projects with Vice Minister Kim Youngsoo and Local Government Leaders Across the Country

Cho Gyuil, Mayor of Jinju in South Gyeongsang Province, participated in the "2025 National Cultural Cities Expo" held in the Yeouido area, where he met with Vice Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Kim Youngsoo and local government leaders from across the country to share Jinju's cultural city projects.


According to Jinju City on September 9, this Cultural Cities Expo, held under the theme "A Garden Cultivated by Differences," provided a venue for sharing distinctive cultural content and policy achievements from various regions. Jinju City introduced its lantern and silk content, operated a booth featuring Hamo and Hamo Friends Ayo-the city's tourism characters-and presented a vision for the region's future development through its cultural city projects. In particular, the city reported that the lantern-making experience for visitors received an enthusiastic response.

At the opening ceremony roundtable, attended by Vice Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Kim Youngsoo, Yeongdeungpo District Mayor Choi Hokwon, Miryang Mayor Ahn Byunggu, Chuncheon Mayor Yuk Donghan, and others, Mayor Cho Gyuil stated, "Through the Republic of Korea's cultural city projects, we will transform Jinju's signature cultural assets, such as lanterns and silk, into cultural content and foster their growth into future cultural industries." He added, "We will actively promote the cultural city project to address local extinction and regional imbalance issues through culture, and to achieve sustainable development."


Meanwhile, Jinju City has set forth the vision of "Jinju, a Cultural City Embracing Light" and plans to invigorate the region through culture by supporting startups, product development and production, and distribution utilizing Jinju's representative content over the three-year period from 2025 to 2027.
