A man in his 20s was apprehended by police in Namyangju, Gyeonggi Province, for shooting arrows at a stray cat. The police are currently investigating Mr. A without detention on suspicion of violating the Animal Protection Act.

According to Yonhap News and other sources on September 8, the Namyangju Southern Police Station booked Mr. A, a man in his 20s, on charges of shooting an arrow at a stray cat in the Wabu-eup area on the morning of September 4. According to a witness report, the cat was seen wandering the streets with an arrow piercing its torso. A cat caretaker who had been looking after the animal for about seven years said, "I was shocked to see the cat hit by an arrow."

During the police investigation, Mr. A stated, "I was angry because the cat stepped on seedlings at my father's farm, so I committed the act using a bow and arrows I had at home." He initially denied the crime, but admitted to it when police questioned him about the use of a target.

The police secured a mechanical bow, known as a compound bow, used in the incident from Mr. A's farm. It was confirmed that this type of bow can be purchased and possessed in Korea without a special permit.

Meanwhile, a capture trap was installed near the witness's home to rescue the injured cat, but the animal has not yet been found. Under the current Animal Protection Act, causing injury to an animal using a tool can result in up to two years in prison or a fine of up to 20 million won, and causing an animal's death can result in up to three years in prison or a fine of up to 30 million won.

The police plan to refer Mr. A to the prosecution once the investigation is concluded.
