"Not Selfish and Rare These Days"
Neymar's Representatives Yet to Make an Official Statement
Brazilian football star Neymar has become an heir to a fortune. It has been revealed that a Brazilian billionaire, who had never met Neymar in person, designated him as the sole heir to his entire estate.
According to reports by the British media outlet The Sun and local Brazilian media on September 4, a businessman in his 30s from the southern Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul drafted an official will at a notary office in Porto Alegre in June 2023, naming Neymar as his sole heir.
The will states, "In a sound state of mind and under no external pressure, I have freely decided to name Neymar as my heir." The businessman was unmarried and had no children, and it is reported that he left the will due to a recent decline in his health.
He explained his reason for choosing Neymar as his heir by saying, "He is not selfish and possesses values that are rare these days." He added, "The relationship Neymar has with his father reminds me of my late father."
The billionaire's estate is estimated to be worth approximately 752 million pounds (about 1.4 trillion won), including real estate, investment assets, and shares in major companies. The inheritance approval process is currently underway in a Brazilian court, and if approved, Neymar will become the official heir. However, there are also concerns about potential inheritance taxes and possible legal disputes in the future.
Neymar's representatives have not yet received official notification regarding the inheritance and are reportedly maintaining a cautious stance.
Neymar has played for prestigious European clubs such as FC Barcelona in Spain and Paris Saint-Germain FC in France, and is currently playing for the Brazilian club Santos. He is also active as a businessman, investing in various fields such as fashion brands, real estate, and gaming. According to Forbes, his net worth is estimated to be around 200 million dollars (about 270 billion won).
However, Neymar was convicted of tax evasion in 2016, and at the time, was ordered to pay a penalty of approximately 58.67 billion won, resulting in the seizure of personal assets such as his private jet, yacht, and real estate.
