Lee Eonju Urges
"Party Must Take Prompt Action"
The Democratic Party of Korea has launched a fact-finding investigation into Choi Kangwook, Director of the Party Education Training Institute, who has come under fire for remarks deemed as "secondary victimization" in connection with the sexual misconduct case involving the Rebuilding Korea Innovation Party.
On September 5, Park Suhyeon, the party's chief spokesperson, met with reporters at the National Assembly and said, "The party's Ethics Inspection Team has requested a written statement from Director Choi, and an in-person interview is scheduled for today."
Chief Spokesperson Park explained, "Future procedures and actions will likely be determined after the results of the in-person investigation are available," adding, "Today, a swift investigation is underway as instructed by Representative Jeong Cheongrae."
On the same day, Supreme Council member Lee Eonju wrote on Facebook, "Why is the Director of the Democratic Party's Education Training Institute causing trouble stemming from another party and putting us in a difficult position?" She urged, "The party needs to take prompt action."
Director Choi sparked controversy during a lecture at the Innovation Party's Daejeon and Sejong City chapter event on August 31, when he commented on the party's sexual misconduct case, saying, "How many people actually know the facts about the sexual misconduct? Most are just repeating what they've heard from others," and added, "Thinking that what someone you like says is always right is not your own thought, but the thought of a pig or a dog." Following this, Representative Jeong ordered the party's Ethics Inspection Team to conduct an urgent fact-finding investigation into Director Choi.
